Decided to start the new year off with a nice trail run. Ran 2 miles straight uphill on ice. It felt like every two steps I ran I slipped back one. It was exhausting but fun. The worst part was coming back down, we basically walked back down, and I fell 3 times. Also I signed up for the Southern Utah Half today, so now I have something to look forward to.

Good run today late at night. It was pretty chilly! Also, we made up a good work out schedule for the next couple months. After the run we lifted weights.

Did a two mile warm up and then a two mile tempo and mile cool down. For only having been training daily for a week, the tempo went well, the miles were 6:30, 6:42. Not the most amazing things ever, but I am happy with where my fitness is at. Also, I will be in St. George on saturday if anyone wants to go for a run!

Made time at the end of the day for a run and some weights. I felt pretty tight the entire run, So I rolled and stretched afterwards. I am excited to go to St. George where it is actually warm!

ran the first part of the southern Utah half course today. It was nice, kind of a bummer to be alone though. I got competitive with myself and pushed the pace for some reason. Ended up with a 6:58 avg. for only running consistently for a bit over a week I was happy with how it went!

What a great day! After work today, I wanted to go for a run, but for some reason Melodie was very much against me going for a run. So we went to dinner instead. It turns out she was having a surprise party for me, and didn't want me to be all smelly. It was really fun, lots of people I hadn't seen in a long time came. After that I snuck out for a run around 10:30 which is when I usually go to sleep, so I was pretty tired. On a side note today I read Jared Ward's thesis on marathon pacing, it was actually a pretty interesting read!

Did a half mile warm up then did a workout of 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 1 minute all with equal recovery. It was pretty hard, a lot of that probably was because I was alone, but I was happy I made it through the workout.

Ran this morning, it was beautiful outside. What was not how beautiful was how I was feeling though, I had to put so much effort into barely moving at all. I just kept it nice and slow.

Ran up by Maverick and the dirt mile today. Did four miles and then matt joined me. It felt really nice outside, and my body felt good, no aches or pains. After my run, my sister convinced me to do 800 jumpropes with her, I never knew they were so exhausting!

This run was about survivng. I ate a whole lot of Olive Garden about an hour before my friend asked if I wanted to go running, and I still needed to go so I went. My stomach was not happy with me during that run. My left calf was a bit tight, but loosened up throughout the run.

8 solo miles today. 5 were at a quicker pace (6:42 avg). The first quick mile I felt like I was working way too hard, but after that everything felt pretty controlled. It was amazing weather today, I am loving this January weather. After I rolled out my legs while watching the hunger games in russian, so that was pretty fun.

Did some speed work today. Went to the track and did 10X400. Tried to run controlled. It has been a long time since I have tried to run anything faster than 6:30 so it was pretty hard. My splits were 81, 84, 82, 85, 82, 85, 83, 81, 81, 81. This was a pretty good workout for me. I am going to try to put a workout like this in at least once a week.

Upon waking up I found a whole lot of snow outside! It was pretty much impossible to run, but I had to get in my run so resorted to the treadmill. It was a long ten miles, but I got it done. This week was a good week of mileage, slowly building it up. Also after my run, I tried to get ice cream, and I couldn't get the car out of the parking garage because the hill going out of the parking garage. I was pretty sad because I really wanted some hot cocoa.

Did a 2 mile warm up, then a 2 mile tempo at about 6:30 pace, then a mile cool down. I didn't feel very smooth at all, I don't think I could have ran that pace for much longer today, I was pretty dead.

Right when I got home it started snowing, Turns out my shoes are pretty slick in the snow, I think I did more sliding than actual running This week sadly has been pretty low mileage, it was the opposite of what I wanted, I guess there is always next week.

Ran 4 with Nate when he got into town. It was fun to talk and catch up on life. I didn't feel too great throughout the run though, my knee felt better though.

What a fun run today! Trey and I went up the canyon, the first two miles were really slow because we had to trudge through snow. The rest were all about 7 or faster pace. My legs were pretty dead by the end, but it felt good. about 6 miles in we took a detour to help a man find his dog, we found it, but it kept running away, and wow it was a fast dog! that added about a mile to our run. Glad that I could end the week on a good note.

Went and ran hills, we did five repeats, all at about 6 min pace, and wow the legs were burning! After the run I iced my achilles, because it has been feeling a little tight.

I signed up for this half marathon a couple of weeks ago, because Melodie had a conference down here this weekend, and I had nothing better to do. The race didn't start until 8:30 which was nice, because I woke up at 6, and didn't have to wake up super early. I did however have a horrible nights sleep and woke up a whole lot. Anyway I got to the race, got on the bus and we got to the start line an hour early. Everyone was just camped around these fires trying to stay warm. The race was pretty small with only about 120 people in it, so I was wondering how well I could do. I was planning on taking it pretty easy and just running it as more of a tempo. I warmed up a mile then meandered over to the start line. It was a really casual start, with a minute left, the announcer said "okay, fast runners go to the front" nobody stepped any closer to the line. He said anyone with a 1:15...nobody, anybody with a 1:20, once again nobody, but I knew there was a girl there that had ran that fast. So then he went to 1:30, so a couple guys and I went up to the line, and then the race started. I just  ran right behind the first place guy for the first mile (6:25) Then the first place girl ran with me for a little bit for mile two and three (6:42) (6:43) She would eventually end up winning the race. Another girl passed me around mile 4 (6:43) and so then I just stayed in fourth after that. The course elevation map in my mind was pretty far off, because there were three pretty good climbs in this race. mile 5 was just a couple of rolling hills (6:49) The first hill was at mile 6 that was about 3/4 of a mile, It was really hard to push over the top of that hill (7:05) Then we had a little downhill for mile 7 where my legs started feeling normal again (6:40) All this time I could see the other three ahead of me, but I wasn't making up any distance. Here is where I took a Gu and it helped a lot before the big hill that was coming, The hill just looked like my worst nightmare at that moment, this is when I had to use a lot of mental toughness to not stop on, or after the hill, but even with the hill the mile wasn't too bad (7:02) Miles nine and ten weren't much to report I was just trying to stay focused (7:01, 6:53) . Mile 11 was perhaps the worst thing ever. The entire mile was uphill, and I was pretty dead at this point physically so this mile was pretty rough (7:31) the next two miles were just survival and were pretty rough (7:18, 7:13). I didn't end too great, but I got a PR and that is on a course that was a lot harder than the first half I ran so I was pretty excited about that. The hardest part was probably running this all as a solo effort, Nobody was ever really close to me. It was pretty cool that I was the 2nd male overall, they gave me a big plaque, so that was pretty awesome!

Haven't ran the past couple of days, because my right hip has hurt pretty bad whenever I try to stand up. I have been stretching it a lot. It didn't hurt too bad on my run.

I haven't blogged for a week or two, just been a little busy. Ran with my sister kaylee today, down by disneyland. The weather was perfect. We ran to this park that was almost perfectly a mile round so that was great. We ran around it and we did about 7 x 1 minute hard with 1 minute recovery. It was a good effort, and my hip didn't bug me at all, so that was a plus!

8 easy miles around Anaheim, I forgot how much you walk when at disneyland, Today and yesterday, I have walked about 14 miles, and thats just my walking.

Well after 6 1/2 hours in the car I went out for a run, before another 3 1/2 hour drive back to provo. My legs felt pretty tight, due to the fact I was crammed in a car for so long, but they felt better towards the end. Did 6x1 minute on 1 minute off, just to try to get the legs moving a little bit. I am not looking forward to going back to Provo and its cold weather. Hip felt a little funny, it didn't hurt, just didn't feel super smooth.

Only ran once this week and my hip and knee hurt a lot. Took the rest of the week off, but I did a lot of stretches and iced a lot. This next week I want to get back to running every day, hopefully my body allows it.

Woke up nice and early and ran around Kiwanis park, I forgot how much slower grass feels than road. It was a good run, still just taking things easy.

What a beautiful day! I got out after work and it was about 65 and nice and sunny. The run was good, I saw a lot of people out running, and saw my friend and ran with him for about two miles. Did lots of stretching and rolling after, my hip is slowly feeling better.

Ran a warm up to the track and then wanted to do 4x400 at a fairly decent pace. The tmies were 72, 81, 82, 73. The first and last ones we were a bit antsy. Overall I felt pretty alright, my hip was bugging me a little bit on the last one.

Flew down to texas last night, when i got in I ran with Kaylee a little bit, it is super humid, I was sweating so much, even though we were barely moving!

Well today was the first annual Kimzey half marathon. Basically I flew down to Texas, and me and my two sisters decided we didn't want to pay any entry fees, so we designed a course, made t shirts, and even had custom medals made! When we woke up, the wind was howling it was 19 mile an hour winds. We drove out to a lake and started our running with one of us saying bang, and that was supposed to be the gun going off. It was nice and easy for me to run with them, but it was a lot of fun. The course was beautiful, there was a lot of rolling hills, and we went through a couple million dollar home neighborhoods that were insanly huge. Sadly we were running into the wind the entire time, but after awhile it died off a little bit. I was really proud of Amber as she has never ran that far before, she was really nervous beforehand, but she was a champ and ran the entire way. As we were going up to the house we were .1 short so we had to run up and down the block. At the end we broke through the toilet paper finish line and then celebrated with some waffle love.

My hip hurts pretty bad, I am going to ice it a lot and not run for a couple days.

Haven't ran for a couple months because of my hip and knee. I have been doing a lot of strength training and that type of thing. Went and saw a chiropractor about my hips because nothing I was doing was helping, it turns out they were pretty messed up. Now I have been going in 2 times a week and am feeling a lot better. The knee pain is still there but slowly going down. Hopefully I can start running in a week or two.
